Kitchens Built to Age Well in High Springs
Kitchen Remodeling in High Springs usually means two goals at once: finishes that hold up for a long time and a layout that stays easy to use. High Springs has a high share of homeowners, at 84.3% according to Census estimates, and the 2020 census found 17.6% of residents were 65 or older. Many owners here want one well-planned kitchen remodel rather than a series of small fixes.
Designing for every age in the house
A kitchen that works at 40 should still work at 75. That does not mean it has to look like a hospital. Here are features we often suggest in High Springs homes:
- Deep drawers instead of base cabinets with fixed shelves, so nothing hides in the back
- A wall oven or microwave drawer at a comfortable height
- Pull-down shelving in upper cabinets
- Single-lever or touch faucets
- Layered lighting: ceiling, under-cabinet and over the sink
- Slip-resistant flooring and wider aisles between counters
- A section of counter at seated height for prep or a quick meal
Higher-value homes, higher-quality materials
The median owner-occupied home value in High Springs is $320,700, above Gainesville's $247,500, and median household income is $94,421. That often supports better cabinet construction, such as plywood boxes, dovetailed drawers and soft-close hardware, and stone or quartz counters. We will show you where higher-grade materials make a real difference and where a mid-range option looks and performs just as well.
From Santaffey to High Springs
The town took shape in the early 1880s after the Savannah, Florida and Western Railway was built and phosphate mines opened nearby. A station and post office named Santaffey opened in 1884, the name changed twice more, and in 1888 it became High Springs. The city incorporated in 1892. Homes from that railroad and mining era, and from the decades after, have kitchens that were often added to or rebuilt over time. In an older house, we expect to find floors that slope, walls that are out of plumb and wiring that needs an update before new appliances go in.
Growth brings newer houses
High Springs grew 16.2% from 2010 to 2020, reaching 6,215 residents, and the Census estimates 6,762 by 2025. Newer homes in town usually need a different kind of remodel: replacing builder-grade cabinets and counters, adding an island or changing a closed kitchen into an open one.

High Springs Questions
What kitchen features make it easier to keep living at home as we get older?
Drawers instead of deep shelves, appliances at waist height, good lighting, lever faucets and enough floor space to move comfortably. We can add these to a remodel in a way that looks like a normal, well-designed kitchen.
Is quartz or granite better for a High Springs kitchen?
Both are durable. Quartz needs no sealing and has a consistent look; granite has natural variation and handles heat well but should be resealed periodically. We bring samples so you can see them in your own light.
Our house is one of the older ones in town. Will that change the remodel?
Usually it adds some steps. We check the subfloor, framing and wiring early, and we plan cabinets for walls that may not be square. Anything unexpected is discussed with you before the scope or price changes.
